New public transport by-law to tackle violence


Violence, intimidation and the use of force by those offering public transport will not be tolerated, according to new by-laws proposed by the eThekwini Metro Municipality.

“The behaviour of drivers, conductors and passengers is covered by the by-law. This includes prohibiting the use of force, intimidation, threat or other means to prevent a person from using a public transport vehicle of their choice or to prevent the driver from taking on passengers,” the City said in a statement.
